EEC celebrated Nauryz holiday

Today the Eurasian Economic Commission celebrated Nauryz holiday, one of the oldest in the history of mankind.

On this day the usual working environment of the Eurasian Economic Commission's departments and divisions was decorated with national songs and dances.

At the celebration venue, where business meetings are usually held, there was a yurt, bright oriental carpets were laid, traditions and customs of the peoples of Eurasia were demonstrated. Many holiday participants were dressed in colorful national costumes.

The event also featured a treat tasting.

"Please receive my sincere congratulations on Nauryz meiramy. Today we are shaping together an integration union based on the principles of equality, friendship and economic benefit of the five States. May all our endeavors be crowned with success!" wished the guests of the event Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Commission's Board.

On February 23, 2010, the UN General Assembly recognized March 21 as the International Day of Nawruz. By its decision dated September 30, 2009, UNESCO included this holiday in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The holiday's names vary from country to country: Nooruz, Nauryz, Novruz, Nauruz, Nooruz.
