Vladimir Serpikov, Director of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Trade Policy Department, participated in the ESCAP Expert Group Meeting on Leveraging Transformative Potential of Trade and Trade Facilitation for Sustainable Development in North and Central Asia.
At the session "Climate-Smart Trade and Trade Facilitation," he told about the principles and approaches to shaping the climate agenda in the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as the existing instruments for the promotion of low-carbon development.
The event participants discussed the potential impact of trade-related climate measures on the EAEU market and trade with third countries. Special attention was paid to exchanging views on criteria for green projects (model taxonomies).
"The establishment of common approaches to developing the carbon market can serve not only to protect export-oriented industries of the EAEU, but also to develop competitive advantages in industries with a relatively low carbon footprint or with a significant potential for its reduction," mentioned Vladimir Serpikov.
