EEC and WOAH develop interaction
Valentin Tataritsky, Minister in charge of Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Vladimir Subbotin, Deputy Director of the EEC Department for Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures, attended the General Session of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), which was held on May 25-29 in Paris. The event was attended by delegates from 183 WOAH member countries, including from the EAEU States. The session discussed issues of ensuring security in international trade in animals and products of animal origin. Interim results of work on new international standards regarding methods of animal disease control, as well as issues of animal vaccination against particularly dangerous diseases were considered. On the sidelines of the session Valentin Tataritsky held a number of working meetings. During his negotiations with Emmanuelle Soubeyran, WOAH Director General and representatives of the WOAH Regional Commissions for Europe and Asia and the Pacific discussed areas of further cooperation in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and WOAH for 2025-2027, including in terms of providing methodological assistance for the clarification of the requirements of WOAH standards to the authorized veterinary authorities of the EAEU States and conducting seminars on veterinary medicine. The parties agreed to strengthen cooperation, in particular, to continue the implementation of international standards and WOAH recommendations in the legal acts of the Eurasian Economic Union. An agreement was reached on further participation of the Commission's representatives and the Union's veterinary authorities in WOAH activities, as well as of the WOAH Regional Commissions for Europe and Asia and the Pacific. "The application of best practical experience of WOAH in the acts of the Union, as well as the active participation of our Member States in the discussion of changes to the standards planned for adoption and introduction into the WOAH Codes, contribute to building the potential of the authorized veterinary authorities of our countries," noted the EEC Minister. "This, in turn, ensures epizootic welfare in the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union, development of a common strategy to combat particularly dangerous animal diseases and antibiotic resistance." At the meeting between Valentin Tataritsky and Baox Huang, President of the WOAH Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific, promising areas of cooperation in applying veterinary and sanitary measures were discussed, in particular, the issues of ensuring epizootic safety in trade in products of animal origin between the Asia Pacific countries. The EEC Minister also held meetings with representatives of the veterinary authorities of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia on relevant matters related to the development of Eurasian economic integration in this area. The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) was founded in 1924 and is an intergovernmental organization responsible for ensuring animal health, specifically through the development of international standards in the field of veterinary control, monitoring of the global epizootic situation, control of infectious animal diseases, including international quarantine measures.

EEC discussed issues of improving EAEU customs regulation
On April 30, the Eurasian Economic Commission held a meeting of the high-level Working Group on improving customs regulation chaired by Ruslan Davydov, the EEC Minister in charge of Customs Cooperation. It discussed amendments to the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union concerning the simplified movement of containers across the EAEU customs border. The issues of increasing the efficiency of applying the customs transit procedure, as well as the exchange of information on fish catches and fish products were considered. The Working Group participants agreed to continue discussing the most sensitive issues. The next face-to-face meeting of the Working Group is scheduled to be held in May this year.

Maxim Ermolovich: "Meetings of regional competition organizations help develop more efficient competition policy around the world"
The Eurasian Economic Commission, with the support of the Egyptian Competition Authority, held a working meeting of representatives of regional competition organizations in Cairo. It was attended by Maxim Ermolovich, the EEC Minister in charge of Competition and Antitrust Regulation. Such events, which have become traditional on the initiative of the EEC specialized unit, help international regional organizations cooperate constructively on relevant matters and share experience. The focus of the fifth meeting was on practices for efficient competition regulation. "We promote the benefits of regional cooperation, strengthen and expand interregional dialogue, adapt best competitive practices to the needs of each region and generate new ideas, which ultimately leads to a more efficient competitive policy around the world," believes Maxim Ermolovich. The EEC will continue to hold meetings of regional competition organizations. The fifth meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Egyptian Competition Authority, representatives of UNCTAD, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, the East African Community, the West African Economic and Monetary Union, the Economic Community of West African States, the Arab Competition Network, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, BRICS and the Caribbean Community.

Arzybek Kozhoshev addressed participants of CIS CTM International Conference on Sectoral Professional Competence
Arzybek Kozhoshev, the EEC Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure, delivered a video message to the participants of the International Conference on Professional Competence Requirements for Sustainable Transport Development. In his speech, the EEC Minister emphasized that professionalism plays an important role for the development of the industry, with a high level of competence being key to smooth operation of transport and transport infrastructure facilities. "Technological progress puts forward new requirements for the entire transport system, as transport operations are rapidly technologized, smart digital and intelligent solutions are introduced. Nevertheless, in all these endeavors, the role of specialists who ensure the sustainability and resilience of the transport system remains significant," noted Arzybek Kozhoshev. The Minister also shared that the EAEU countries are working to expand possibilities through mutual recognition of academic degrees in the Eurasian space. "Enhancing professional competence through international partnerships ultimately contributes to the growth of our economies and the region as a whole," the Minister emphasized.

Bakytzhan Sagintaev held series of meetings on Astana International Forum's sidelines
On May 29 in Astana, Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held a series of working meetings on the sidelines of the Astana International Forum. The negotiations with Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, noted the importance of building systematic cooperation between the EEC and the OTS, and placed emphasis on the exchange of experience between the two integration associations. The meeting with Baghdad Amreev, President of the Turkic Investment Fund, discussed the issues of providing assistance to entrepreneurship across the EAEU. The conversation with Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, touched upon the prospects of cooperation in the energy sector. Practical implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Commission and the UAE Government were considered during the meeting between Bakytzhan Sagintaev and Mohammed Saeed Mohammed Al Ariqi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Kazakhstan. There was an exchange of views with Nikolay Podguzov, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, on the prospects of investment activities to strengthen the EAEU economies. The negotiations with the Deputy Prime Ministers of the Eurasian Five states — Members of the EAEU Council, discussed priority areas of cooperation within the Union in accordance with the Eurasian Economic Path Declaration and further economic dialogue with third countries.

Bakytzhan Sagintaev participated in Astana International Forum
On May 29 in Astana, Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, visited Astana International Forum — the largest annual business event that brings together world leaders, heads of international organizations, investors and business representatives. The motto of AIF 2025 is "Connecting Minds, Shaping the Future". Heads of state, government and international organizations considered a wide range of issues in three key topics of the global agenda: foreign policy and international security; economy and finance; and energy and climate change. The Chairman of the EEC Board took part in the plenary session discussing initiatives to facilitate global economic development. At the AIF 2025 Bakytzhan Sagintaev held a number of working meetings with the participants of the High Level Forum. AIF 2025 brought together more than 5,000 people from all over the world. It featured 25 discussion platforms, with about 600 foreign guests as speakers.

EAEU and Indonesia held discussions to finalize negotiations on free trade agreement
From May 28 to 29, Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, paid a working visit to the Republic of Indonesia to discuss issues requiring special attention for the successful completion of negotiations on a free trade agreement. "The conclusion of an agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Indonesia will give goods from the Eurasian Economic Union countries duty-free access to the largest market in Southeast Asia with a population of more than 280 million people," mentioned Andrey Slepnev following his Jakarta meeting with Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The EEC Minister emphasized that the preferential trade regime will significantly improve the competitiveness of EAEU products in the Indonesian market, which, in turn, will enable increased and diversified exports to this country. The visit resulted in the parties agreeing on further close contacts and outlining a plan to finalize the negotiations as soon as possible.

EEC Board Chairman Bakytzhan Sagintaev's greetings on EAEU Day
Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Board, conveyed his greetings on the Eurasian Economic Union Day. This holiday, established in 2022 by the decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, is dedicated to the signing of the EAEU Agreement on May 29, 2014. Guided by this document, the Member States and the Commission have done a lot of work over the years on establishing and developing the integration association. "Since the start of the Eurasian Economic Union functioning, its total GDP has grown by 18% reaching 2.5 trillion dollars. Its economic growth figures have significantly surpassed the world average," Bakytzhan Sagintaev emphasized. Mutual trade within the Union has doubled and reached nearly $100 billion in 2024. At the same time, the share of national currencies in mutual settlements exceeded 92%. The volume of trade with third countries increased 1.4 times. Industrial output increased by 29% and agricultural output by 26%. The Head of the EEC Board emphasized that even now the Eurasian Economic Union can be called a global important pole of economic attraction. To this end, the EAEU continues to interact with dozens of countries and key regional integration associations. "A new configuration of trade, transport and logistics routes, effective distribution of financial and labor resources is the basis for economic growth of each of the EAEU countries and our integration association as a whole," Bakytzhan Sagintaev noted. The Chairman of the Commission's Board sent letters of greetings to the Heads of State and Government of the EAEU countries.
