The Agreement on Economic and Trade Cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and its Member States, of the one part, and the People’s Republic of China, of the other part (hereinafter: the Agreement) was signed on 17 May 2018 and entered into force on 25 October 2019.
On 16 February 2023 at the 3rd Session of the Joint Commission for the Implementation of the Agreement (hereinafter: the Joint Commission) the Sides adopted the Plan (Roadmap) on Development of Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and its Member States, and the People’s Republic of China. The document includes three sections: digitalization of transport corridors, dialogues on foreign trade policy issues and conducting the joint scientific research on the effects of various scenarios of deepening trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU Member States and China.
On 19 April 2024, the 4th session of the Joint Commission was held in Beijing, co-chaired by Mr. Andrey Slepnev, Member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, on behalf of the EAEU side, and Mr. Li Fei, Vice Minister of Commerce of China, on behalf of the Chinese side.
At the session, the Sides reviewed the state of implementation of the Roadmap on Development of Trade and Economic Cooperation between the EAEU and the PRC, the results of cooperation in the area of the climate agenda, development strategies of the EAEU and China, measures of market defense and e-commerce, as stipulated by the provisions of the document. The Sides noted the results of dialogues in the areas of public procurement and between stock exchanges of the EAEU and China.
In addition, the Joint Commission discussed the results and further steps to enhance interaction in the areas of technical regulation, application of SPS measures, customs and sectoral cooperation. The Sides also noted the intention to promote the development of the Eurasian Agroexpress project, aimed at accelerating the transport of agricultural products from the EAEU to China by railway.
