Arzybek Kozhoshev took part in Eurasian Integration Forum “Strategy of Advanced Development”

Arzybek Kozhoshev, EEC Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure, informed on developing transport corridors and logistics in the Eurasian Economic Union at the plenary session of the Eurasian Integration Forum “Strategy of Advanced Development” held on July 3 at the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia” (VDNKh, Moscow). The Forum’s plenary session is devoted to coupling the EAEU with the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative as a promising form of integration in the BRICS+ economic space.

In his speech, the Minister noted high indicators of transport connectivity between the Union Member States. In particular, the Union ranks 4th in the world in terms of the motor highway length (4.9% of the world share), and ranks 3rd in the world in terms of the railway length (10.5% of the world share).

Arzybek Kozhoshev reported on the work done jointly with the Member States to develop the Eurasian transport corridors, remove bottlenecks, build “seamless” logistics, and demonstrated a map of the Eurasian transport corridors, including the Eurasian single-modal railway routes, the Eurasian multimodal route, as well as the Eurasian road corridors and routes.

A special mention was made on the importance of the List of priority integration infrastructure transport projects approved by the Heads of Government of the Member States, which currently includes 11 projects. The projects envisage the construction and reconstruction of highways, as well as the construction, electrification, and modernization of railway infrastructure.

“A logical continuation of the work in the field of transport was the comprehensive plan for developing the Eurasian transport corridors adopted by the Commission's Board in 2023. At present, we work to prepare target indicators for developing the Eurasian transport corridors, and passports of corridors, to develop uniform requirements to corridors, as well as to define measures for developing individual sections aimed at identifying and eliminating bottlenecks,” the Minister said.

Speaking about the development of coupling with the Chinese Belt and Road transport initiative, the EEC Minister mentioned such joint projects as the “Eurasian Agroexpress” and “United Transport and Logistics Company – Eurasian Railway Alliance“ (UTLC ERA).

“The projects are actively developing and may be good examples of the integration effect and development of transportation with the People’s Republic of China. For example, the volume of container transportation along the route China – Europe – China on transit services of UTLC ERA amounted to about 674 ths TEU in 2023,” Arzybek Kozhoshev noted.
“I would like to emphasize that today, despite the existing difficulties, the value of the Union's common market of transport services has increased manifold and new opportunities have opened up for developing transport and ensuring economic stability and economic development of our countries,” said Arzybek Kozhoshev, EEC Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure.
