On November 1, Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held a working meeting with Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Geneva.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed promising areas of cooperation in migration management, in particular, regulating the flow of labor resources across the Eurasian space.
Bakytzhan Sagintaev reported that this year the Commission joined the IOM Global Policy Network to develop policies and strategies for ethical recruitment.
"The Eurasian region is highly attractive for migrants. We are interested in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration in a number of topical areas," mentioned the Board Chairman.
Of interest to EEC are international practices in recognizing professional skills of migrant workers based on comparability of qualifications. The Commission annually compiles a List of the most in-demand positions and professions in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. Qualification requirements are developed for the professions included in the List.
Amy Pope expressed interest in studying the List and emphasized that it was necessary to use the opportunities for future cooperation in the field of employment, in particular, to create a special joint program.
An important area is also cooperation within the framework of regional and global IOM projects, which are being implemented in the EAEU countries among others.
"We propose to consider the possibility of developing and launching a pilot project aimed at improving the financial literacy of migrant workers in the Eurasian Economic Union," Bakytzhan Sagintaev said.
During the working meeting, the parties noted the importance of deepening cooperation between the two international organizations and agreed to update the 2013 Memorandum of Cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the International Organization for Migration.
The negotiations resulted in Bakytzhan Sagintaev and Amy Pope agreeing to further maintain working contacts and develop practical interaction.
