EAEU and Cuba discussed consumer safety issues

On July 31, the Eurasian Economic Commission held a seminar on consumer rights protection cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Republic of Cuba chaired by Natalia Zhukova, Director of the EEC Department for Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures.

Emphasizing the topic importance for the EAEU countries, Natalia Zhukova noted that developing international dialogue in this area strengthens the foundations of the Eurasian integration and promotes mutually beneficial cooperation.

The seminar discussed tools to protect consumer rights and interests, and considered problems relevant to citizens of the Union States and Cuba.

The Commission presented the outcomes of the EAEU countries' joint work on consumer protection. The Cuban delegation told about the regulation mechanisms in the national consumer market.

Special attention was paid to ensuring safety of goods and services, which is the key to efficient trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU countries and Cuba.

The participants outlined plans for further cooperation and identified new discussion topics, including issues of consumer protection in tourism, healthcare and education.

According to Natalia Zhukova, the seminar opened up new opportunities for developing dialogue in the field of protecting consumer rights and interests and establishing economic ties.

The seminar was attended by representatives of Cuban public authorities, including heads and representatives of various ministries and agencies, as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation.

The seminar was organized under the joint action plan adopted in furtherance of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Government of the Republic of Cuba
