The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission decided to provide a tariff benefit in the form of an exemption from import customs duties in relation to yarn made from jute fibers or other textile bast fibers (codes 5307 10 000 0 and 5307 20 000 0 in the CN FEA of the EAEU), imported into the Republic of Armenia in an amount of not more than 3 tons and to the Republic of Belarus in an amount of not more than 6,000 tons.
The said tariff benefit will be provided upon confirmation issued by the authorized authority; its validity period is limited to February 28, 2026. “The introduction of this customs and tariff regulation measure will allow, in particular, to support stable operations of carpet manufacturers under sanctions pressure, as well as restore decreased output volumes,” noted Vahagn Ghazaryan, Director of the EEC Department for Customs, Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation.
He clarified that such raw material was not produced in the EAEU territory. The main exporting country of jute yarn is Bangladesh.
The decision shall come into effect after 10 calendar days have elapsed from the date of its official publication.
For reference
Jute yarn is a natural material obtained from the tropical jute plant. Jute yarn is strong and wear resistant, and also performs well when exposed to moisture and ultraviolet rays. It is widely used in the textile industry to produce various products such as bags, carpets, ropes, ribbons, decorative mats, etc.
From March 28, 2022 to March 31, 2023, as part of measures to support the economies of the EAEU Member States, temporary zero rates of EAEU CCT import customs duties were applied to the goods in question.
