Digital economy statistics formation discussed by the heads of EAEU's statistical services

At their working meeting under the chairmanship of Sergei Glazyev, Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held on September 21, the heads of the Member States' statistical services considered the issues of generating the digital economy statistics within the Eurasian Economic Union and other areas of joint work. The meeting was also attended by Andrey Kosarev, Deputy Chairman of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The meeting participants exchanged their views on the EEC and the Member States' statistical services' joint work in the area of green economy and environmental protection, statistical classifications, further interaction in monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals achievement, expanding the use of digital technologies while collecting and disseminating official statistical information, along with introducing the international data and metadata exchange standard (SDMX).

In addition, the heads of national statistical services shared information on priority areas for the near-term development of the national statistical systems and proposed to implement some joint activities.

The national statistical services were noted to pay increasingly more attention to the use of new information sources, such as administrative data and "big data", when forming the official statistical information.

The working meeting determined the areas for further interaction between the national statistical services of the EAEU states and the Commission. This will increase the degree of harmonization and comparability of the official statistical information in the Union.
