19 Aug 2025 EEC Adopted Approaches to Unifying Crop Seed Production Methods and Schemes and Measures for Sustainable Development of Sugar Industry At its August 19 meeting, the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission adopted recommendations on approaches to unifying crop seed (planting stock) production methods and schemes in their circulation within the Eurasian Economic Union and measures for sustainable development of the sugar industry. "The seed production document is adopted to implement the list of unification measures approved by leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union for consistent convergence of national crop production legislation and providing agricultural production with high-quality seeds of best varieties," noted Gohar Barseghyan, EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture. The adopted approaches recommend the Union states to apply scientifically sound methods and schemes for producing seeds (planting stock) of cereals, legumes, technical, oil-bearing, fruit crops, berries and potato, as well as scientifically sound measures and procedures for preserving crop varieties producing seeds with high varietal and yield characteristics. The document specifies information provided in a seed production scheme, including about the crop, variety, required measures for producing, preparing, sowing, harvesting, conditioning, storing seeds and main agrotechnical and other activities. The use of the EEC recommendation will enable production and sale of high-quality seeds of varieties having ultimate varietal, economically valuable and biological characteristics in volumes required for varietal changes and renewal. It is also important that equivalence of procedures for producing seeds (planting stock) will be ensured at enterprises of the EAEU countries engaged in crop seed production, with eliminated differences in national legislation affecting mutual trade. As for the set of measures recommended by the Commission for sustainable development of the sugar industry, its implementation will also facilitate addressing a range of practical issues. First of all, it will help improve the efficiency of the industry, reduce dependence on imported sugar and means of production, as well as contribute to increasing export potential.
