This was stated by Armen Harutyunyan, Director of the Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, at the International Conference "Digitalization - a Modern Trend of Ensuring the Efficiency of Fish Farms".
The conference brought together representatives of public authorities, scientific and educational institutions, sectoral business associations from the Eurasian Economic Union, Israel, and Iran, the International Food Organization FAO, Rosselkhozbank, logistics and IT-companies. Armen Harutyunyan stressed that the investment and technology policy in the Union's fisheries industry should be carried out with due regard to the possibilities of digitalization in increasing the efficiency of production, economic and trade activities.
Aquaculture in the EAEU States demonstrates high production trends. For example, over the past five years, this indicator has grown 1.8 times throughout the Union as a whole, along with that the largest growth is shown by Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan (10 and 4 times, respectively), and the Russian Federation - by 1.7 times. The volume of mutual trade in fish and fishery products between the five countries increased by 1.6 times.
Besides, the Director of the EEC Department noted the importance of training skilled personnel in this field. Nowadays, the EEC Agricultural Unit, jointly with leading universities in Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, organizes a joint training course for students on fish farming in industrial conditions.
The event presented the existing market offers for automating production processes, digital and software services for fish farms, information technologies for product promotion, and demonstrated the investment potential of the industry in global trends.
