EAEU plans to generate green economy statistics

The first statistical compendium on the green economy in the Eurasian Economic Union may be released in 2024. The possibilities of generating and disseminating green economy statistics and other issues of developing the Eurasian integration in the field of statistics were discussed at the meeting of the Advisory Committee on Statistics, which was held on October 2 under the chairmanship of Sergei Glazyev, Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The meeting participants approved the 2024 action plan agreed with Member States for the implementation of the Program for Developing Integration in the Field of Statistics of the Eurasian Economic Union for 2021 – 2025, and also approved the draft Program of the EEC Statistical Efforts and the list and formats of statistical indicators provided to the Commission by the authorized bodies of the Union countries.

In addition, issues of building a quality management system for the EAEU official statistical information were considered. The first quality report is planned to cover 2024.

Members of the Advisory Committee approved for further consideration by the EEC Board an updated version of the Methodology for Generating Official Statistical Information of the EAEU, which was supplemented by new methods for deriving the Consumer Price Index and Cargo Transportation Tariff Index indicators, as well as an updated methodology for deriving the Unemployment Level indicator.

The meeting participants also discussed the results of comparing the “mirror” data from statistics of mutual trade in goods between the EAEU states for 2022 and noted positive examples of reducing “mirror” discrepancies. To unify “mirror” comparisons with reference to international practice, the meeting approved the Recommendation for Conducting Comparative Analysis of Statistical Data on Mutual Trade of the EAEU States.

The next meeting of the Advisory Committee on Statistics is expected to be held in Moscow in April 2024.
