On February 8 at the Eurasian Economic Commission's headquarters, Bakhyt Sultanov, Minister in charge of Competition and Antitrust Regulation of the Commission, held working meetings with representatives of the Association of European Businesses and the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia.
The key topics of the meetings were the Eurasian Economic Union's competition policy, as well as plans to expand the EEC competence in terms of involving economic entities registered outside the EAEU as defendants in antitrust cases.
According to Bakhyt Sultanov, raising awareness of the business community about the rules of law in the field of competition and antitrust regulation should be one of the main vectors of competition policy in transboundary markets.
The EEC Minister has noted that a discrete role in the dialogue with entrepreneurs is given to forming a pro-competitive consciousness.
"About 80% of antitrust violations occur due to entrepreneurs' ignorance of special aspects of supranational competition law", Bakhyt Sultanov noted.
Along with that, according to the Head of the EEC Antitrust Unit, the antitrust compliance is an important tool that helps prevent violations of general competition rules in transboundary markets. Its development and implementation in the EAEU law is one of the priorities of the Commission's Competition Unit in the short term.
As a result, a decision was adopted to hold a series of meetings between the Commission's experts and representatives of the European and American business community, at which the attendees could discuss real cases of investigating violations of competition rules involving foreign companies.
