EAEU to Apply Trigger Safeguard on Certain Types of Clothing from Vietnam
The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission made a decision to apply a trigger safeguard on certain types of clothing from Vietnam imported with tariff preferences in accordance with the Free Trade Agreement. The safeguard imposition means that during six months from the date of enacting the Board's Decision imports of certain types of clothing from Vietnam into the Eurasian Economic Union will be subject to the current rate of the EAEU common customs tariff. The basis for imposing the safeguard is an exceeded trigger level of imports from Vietnam as stipulated in the Agreement. "This measure will support the Union manufacturers and avoid a sharp increase in duty-free imports of goods from Vietnam over the levels stipulated in the Agreement, which is important for light industry of our countries," noted Andrey Slepnev, EEC Minister in charge of Trade.
