23 Oct 2025 Andrey Slepnev: "UNCTAD plays an important role in facilitating restructuring of the international system based on open regionalism" This was stated by Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, during the general debate at the sixteenth session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva, Switzerland. "The EAEU is an open and highly integrated association. We see the effectiveness of open regionalism that creates new development drivers through merging markets, capitals, labor resources, innovations, infrastructure, as well as through large-scale projects with partnering countries," the EEC Minister pointed out. Speaking about the need to balance the climate action and achieving national social and economic development goals, Andrey Slepnev highlighted the importance of a broad international exchange and non-discriminatory use of best available technologies including low-emission technologies and transition fuels. "We look forward to continuing using UNCTAD as a platform for active interaction on introducing promising digital technologies in the field of customs regulation, trade facilitation, mechanisms for digital marking and traceability of goods," Andrey Slepnev declared. As part of his working visit to Switzerland, Andrey Slepnev held a meeting with Philip Fox-Drummond Gough, Secretary of Economic and Financial Affairs of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Brazil is a member of the South American Common Market with which the EEC has a Memorandum of Cooperation. The meeting with Nazar Agakhanov, Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan, discussed deepening trade and economic cooperation including the interaction along the North–South corridor. Andrey Slepnev also visited the United Nations Office at Geneva where he held negotiations with its Director-General Tatyana Valovaya and working consultations with permanent representatives of the Eurasian Economic Union States to the WTO.
